Lena Nordin, soprano
Lena Nordin was engaged at the Royal Opera of Stockholm after a successful debut in Verdi’s Luisa Miller. Among the many roles she has sung there, the most important are:
Norma, Maria Stuarda, Elisabetta, Violetta, Madama Butterfly, Leonora (Trovatore), Tosca, Lady Macbeth, Cleopatra, Konstanze, Contessa (in The Marriage of Figaro), Lauretta, Antonia, Marguerite, Nedda, Donna Anna, Sophie, Vixen, (in Janacek’s opera The Cunning little Vixen), Gutrune in Götterdämmerung, Rosalinda and Frau Fluth. The Stockholm premiere of Verdi’s Stiffelio in May 2011 was a great success, highly acclaimed by all critics.
The season 2011-12 included two important premieres at the Stockholm opera; Les Dialogues des Carmelites (Madame Lidoine) and Lohengrin (Ortrud).
Miss Nordin has been a regular guest at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen; as Donna Elvira, Violetta, the Countess and Konstanze. She has also sung in the festivals at Savonlinna (Marguerite), in Miscolz, Hungary (Norma), and Wexford (Aspasia in Mozart’s Mitridate and in Mercadante’s Elisa e Claudio).
Other guest appearances have been in Salzburg in Strauss’ opera Daphne, at Drottningholm Court Theatre with two of her many queen portraits: Purcell’s Dido and Regina in Soler’s opera Una cosa rara. She has been invited to sing Violetta at the Finnish National Opera, and she has also sung Elisa in Verdi’s Vespri Siciliani, Norma, Odabella in Attila, Amelia in Ballo in Maschere, Lady Macbeth, and Prinzessin in Schreker’s Das Spielwerk; all six roles in Darmstadt.
Furthermore she has sung the title role of ”Divara” by Corghi at the National Opera in Lisbon, Maria Stuarda in Marseille, and Tosca in Nürnberg and at Teater Hedeland, Denmark. Recently she sang Elisabetta in Don Carlos at the Gothenborg Opera.
She has also won many prizes for her interpretations on stage: Birgit Nilsson’s and Jussi Björling’s, Christina Nilsson’s, Hertzberg/Beyron’s, Svenska Dagbladet Opera Prize and many more.
Miss Nordin is an experienced concert singer, with most of the frequent masses and oratorios on her repertoire-list. She has guested Tonhalle (Zürich), La Fenice (Venice), Semberoper (Dresden), Bamberger Symphoniker, the Radio Symphony Orchestras of Helsinki, Copenhagen, and Stockholm, Queen Elisabeth Hall (London), Oviedo Concert Hall, Spain, and many other venues.
In concert she also has sung Martha by Flotow, Handel’s Acis and Gatathea, Rameau’s Hippolyte et Aricie and Elisa in Mozart’s Il re pastore.
Lena Nordin was appointed ”Royal Court Singer” by H.M. Carl Gustav in 1999, and in June 2003 she was decorated with ”Litteris et Artibus” by H.M. the King.
